This report is based the 2009 Traditional vs. E-portfolio survey which I did. This is a short survey based on how do langage learners use e-portfolio or whether they use it all.
This survey report has received 36 responses in three different in BA English Studies classes of which I attended. The ages of the participant are between 20 and 50. All respondent are English second language speakers and learners. This survey is part of the I-reflect assessment.
First question simply ask that of which portfolio have the participant use recently.
The results indicated that 11 participants have recently used e-portfolio, and 19 participants claims to have use tradition portfolio, while only 6 participants confirm they have used both portfolios
Those who claim to have use both portfolio states that tradition portfolio was used through out primary years and high school, but it was not until attending University the participants was introduced to E-portfolio however others states that they are using both portfolio as of now. Those who have claimed to use e-portfolio states that they use it in class requirement which they will be assessed on.
The third question asks; as university students do you agree that electronic portfolio is more useful then plain traditional portfolio?
They have the option of to say yes, no or not sure.
It shows that 35 participants claim yes, and only 1 said no.
Half percent of those who said yes says that e-portfolio is easier to use because everything is store on the computer which save a lot of printing. While the other half says e-portfolio are more useful than traditional mainly because pictures, documents and videos can be uploaded. However one participant says the reason why he/she disagree was to the fact that, they believe people shouldn’t rely on digital resources too much.
The last question on the survey ask: If you used or have an e-portfolio, as a second language learners please describe how e-portfolio changes some of your prospective. List of things you could include, (the positive/negative of using a e-portfolio, things you learned from using e-portfolio and would you recommend it to other and why)
Looking at the positive aspect of the response; claiming that most agree to the use of e-portfolio. Some claims using e-portfolio as a beginner was confusing and thought it was a waste of time until they got the hang of it and through the course change their mind about e-portfolio. Others states that e-portfolio have certainly changed their point of view and got the use of reflecting their ideas on digital media.

Still USED

A good think about a tradition portfolio is that it's easy to store things in and probably everyone used one before.
Anyone with different language background would find it convenient to use. All through out my primary and high school years, portfolios was extremely handy and still is. I remember every term we get a portfolio each to store all our work in, showing our achievements and class room involvement in projects and also individual evaluation of how well we did in class. In my primary years we were advice to take our portfolio home and show our parents our progress each month. By doing this it give them a clear idea what were learning and how well were doing.
It’s also a medium for discussion between our teachers and us just to see how well our individual goal is being accomplished.
Two of my brothers who are both in Primary still use portfolio to store such as home work and as well as notices and all. Probably different from back in the days but still very much used.
Anything can be stored in a portfolio folder e.g.
· Art work
· Photos
· Individual goals
· Achievement certificate
You can use portfolio for…
· For a job interview
· Career plan
· Apply for Scholarship
· Construct resumes
This is just a few ideas and thoughts I wanted to share.

First reflection
24/04/09
I managed to do a little research on e-portfolio and came across a website based on Sarah Jayne Rendell’s e-portfolio with her very own experience in her 3rd grad teaching class in Dicken Elementary school and also about her self. In her E-portfolio, Sarah has put up a number of her contexts which she include in her e-portfolio that she talks about such as, Introduction, Resume, Teaching Credentials ,References ,Philosophy ,Planning ,Assessing and Evaluating ,Knowing and Representing Subject Matter ,Knowing and Engaging Students ,Building Classroom Community ,Becoming a Member of a Profession ,Student Feedback. In her introduction I notice that she posted a little about her professional background which she talks about how she attended the University of Michigan and studied an undergraduate elementary teacher certification program, she also made some links to the University of Michigan to show where she studied. I thought Sarah’s e-portfolio site was interesting. I still got a lot to read though.
